Once again Polesdon Lacey Shakespeare invited Cat’s Grin to bring the bard to the this historic National Trust property – and how could we possibly resist!
As with previous years, we performed three short shows, each at a different location on the beautiful grounds.
This year we performed a fast-pace, potted version of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, on the grand steps behind the house.
Our three actors each play multiple characters and chaos ensues as star-crossed lovers and fairies get tangled up in one of Shakespeare's most famous comedy's.
Then, a scene from 'The Merry Wives of Windsor'
behind by the cloisters near the bookshop. A scene in which the buffooning Jack Falstaff and the medalling Mistress Quickly discuss the ladies he is trying to woo.
And last but not least, in Polesdon's beautiful Rose Garden, Portia and Nerissa from the 'Merchant of Venice' have a girly-gossip session about all the suitors seeking to win Portia's hand in marriage.
In this play, brave audience members take on the role of the princely suitors while Portia thoroughly roasts them!
With what has been an unpredictable 'British Summer' we were worried about what the weather might bring to our 'al fresco' shows (one of our rehearsals ended up being a complete wash-out!). However in the end weather remained pleasant, only a brief shower during one of the Mid-Summer shows.
We would like to thank Polesdon Lacey Shakespeare for once again having us perform on their stunning grounds!
