Another Summer Shakespeare Spectacular!

Another year and another fabulous turn out for our open-air Shakespeare shows!

This year of 2024 marks the 13th consecutive year, the Cat's Grin Theatre Company has been invited to perform our Pop-Up Shakespeare Show at Polesden Lacey National Trust (minus 2020 - for obvious reasons). Did you know that this makes our Pop-Up Shakespeare show the longest running in the history of the National Trust? We're like The Mousetrap of Pop-Up Shakespeare. Whodunnit? Wedunnit!

Macbeth and the Wyrd Sisters

This year, our shows included an abridged 20 minute version of Macbeth, a scene from Twelfth Night and a scene from A Midsummer Night's Dream. As per our usual style, they were all family friendly, filled with a mixture of traditional text and modern jokes with lots of opportunities for audiences to participate in the shows themselves. Visitors had the chance to play witches, fairies, nobles, ghostly kings and more in our plays!

We have had some incredible feedback from the crowds. One particular review came through on a very nice email stating:

"My 3 year old has become obsessed with watching videos of YouTube of the weird sisters and Banquo’s ghost- he is so fascinated and talking about it a lot - a welcome change from paw patrol! I hope the inspiration will last!"

You can imagine how amused and delighted we were to learn there is now a Macbeth obsessed toddler out there - all thanks to us!

We also received some lovely comments after each show as well and we would like to thank everyone for their kind words which continue to inspire us as performers.

This year, we managed to get full recording of each show, which we hope to select some moments to put up on the website for visitors to enjoy. We also have made some fun edits on our social media platforms (namely Instagram) to check out if you get a moment.

We do apologies to a few disappointed guests who missed performances on the last day, due to the times being written incorrectly on a sign. We will communicate with FoH at Polesden to avoid this assumed miscommunication from happening again.

We do plan on adding our Shakespeare shows to our School Touring repertoire in 2025. We are also happy to perform this show at other venues and events. Please do get in touch if you would like to learn more about what we can offer you.

Once again, we would like to thank Polesden Lacey and The National Trust for continuing to suppose Shakespeare education. We would also like to thank our fabulous audiences and helpers, for without you there would be no show.

When shall we three meet again... hopefully next summer for more Shakespearian fun at Polesden Lacey!
